Being a southern California native, I’ve spent many of my days at the beach and having fun with my friends. The beach is a safe place for me because hearing the waves crash on the sand brings a calming sensation to me. Having the luxury of living close to Anaheim, I was able to buy a Disneyland annual pass throughout middle and high school with a couple of friends and family. I've made most of my happy memories at Disneyland so it has a close place in my heart. Moreover, I love spending time with my cat and dog because they have such different personalities that can make anyone laugh.

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, I was an extrovert and loved being out of the house. Now that we are almost two years into this pandemic, I have become an ambivert because I value more alone time. At the start of the pandemic, I adopted a kitten and that was the best decision that I’ve made because she gave me joy when I wasn’t able to see my friends. Growing up in an environment where I was always surrounded by dogs, I never thought of owning a cat. My cat changed my perspective on cats because she’s not a typical cat. She loves to play with my dog as well as play with water. Also, the coronavirus has changed me as a student. Going from seeing teachers and fellow peers every day to seeing only immediate household members is a drastic change that I wasn’t ready for. Going through online school for the first time was difficult because no one was there to check to see if my homework was done or motivating me to stay on top of assignments like they did in school. I had to change my perspective on my education and how I need to find that motivation in myself to complete assignments.

Having to be isolated from the world for a year made me evaluate and change my priorities that I have set for myself in my life. I took for granted the opportunity of seeing my family without being afraid of getting them sick. FaceTime and Zoom calls with family and friends helped me get through quarantine but something was always off. It was not having physical contact with your loved ones that made it difficult because once in a while we all need a hug. With the extra free time that I had, I used it to further my research on plant-based lifestyle. Since I was in 8th grade, I always made the decision to not eat red meat because of the living conditions that cows, pigs, and other animals live in. It was also interesting to look at how much greenhouse gases are produced from slaughterhouses as well as how much it affects the environment. The other outlet that I used was journaling. Journaling for me was a way that I could express myself without feeling judged by anyone. It was a way to truly connect with myself and it helped overcome my mental health issues. I love how we can look back at a time where we were in either a good or bad space and see how far we have come. In overwhelming times, I like to take time and just reflect on the important things that I value in life.
