The Great Storm of Galveston Free Essay Example

The great storm of Galveston was a horrible loss for lots of people. Although their triumph was huge I believe it was a tragedy. Some might say it was a triumph because of the huge developments but I say it’s a tragedy.

And here’s why 6,000-8,000 people died, Galveston became devastated, and people lost important things. The loss of everything is estimated around $700 million in today’s currency.

One thing that made this a tragedy more than a triumph is that everything got torn down. Even though their triumph was good. You Have to consider the fact that all those buildings and roads were hard work. About 7,000 buildings (including houses) were destroyed. To even imagine having to rebuild all that hard work you did must be very sad. And they had to do catwalks when they could have been using vehicles like us.

Second will have to be the people’s suffering. Many people starved, died and had to deal with the death of important people. It’s not easy to deal with a storm surge over 15 feet that washes an entire island. Some people wished that they were dead because of the devastation. The men burying dead bodies used alcohol just to hide their emotions.

Lastly, people lost things that took effort, work, and patience just to establish. Imagine losing all your hard work, money, and everything. Restarting isn’t cool and none of these people deserved it. Many people would have depression due to losing all your school work and everything just to be where you're at. If you're a kid imagine your parents losing their jobs and you become broke. If you're an adult then imagine losing your job, or if you're a parent imagine not being able to supply for your children/family.

It’s easy to think the great storm of Galveston was a triumph. Due to their developments such as the seawall, commission government, and more. But I disagree because you have to consider the people's devastation. I admit that those new inventions from the triumph are helpful for future protection. But still the loss was too great, terrifying, sudden, and without warning.
