Ana Vidovic Short Biography Essay Example

Ana Vidovic is a 41 year-old classical guitarist. She is one of the most elite musicians in the world. She is best known for her precision, defined phrasing, crisp tone, and creative artistry and musicianship. Ana is from Karlovac, Croatia. She was born on November 8, 1980. She first took the stage in 1988, when she was 8 years old. She has over 1,000 public performances under her belt and has published 5 albums. 

Ana Vidovic was a child prodigy. Ljubomir, her father, played bass and had a band that he performed with all over Croatia. Ana also has two older brothers who were also celebrated musicians. Her brother Victors is a classical guitarist and her other brother, Silvije is a concert pianist. She has credited her older brothers with inspiring her to play as well. She began learning guitar at 5 years old and went to a local music school. At age 13, Ana became the youngest student to ever attend the Academy of Music in Zagreb. She graduated in 1998 and had an amazing reputation in Europe that allowed her to build her career to an international level. She went on to study at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland, with professor Manuel Barrueco, who was also a renowned guitarist at the time. She graduated from this school in 2003. 

 Beginning at age 13, Ana participated in numerous international competitions and won 23 awards. Some of the most remarkable of these awards include: Porin Award for Best Production of Classical Music Album, Porin Award for Best Classical Music Album, Porin Award for Best Classical Music Composition, Porin Award for Best Classical Music Performance,  and Porin Award for Best Solo or Chamber Performance. She stopped doing these competitions at 18. Reviews of her performances were featured in many different news articles and magazines, such as The Washington Post and Guitar Review. As her career progressed, Ana frequently went on tours,  appeared at festivals, and played recitals. 

Ana’s favorite composer is Johann Bach, and she plays his pieces regularly. She is also known to play pieces by composers such as Manuel Ponce, Joaquín Rodrigo, and Frederick Torroba. Ana says Paco de Lucía was a major inspiration to her throughout her childhood and she wanted to be just like him. She mentions John Williams as being a huge musical influence as well as Jaqueline du Pré. 

During her immense career, Ana has been featured on many different compilation albums. She has also released six CDs and two DVDs of her live performances by herself. Her performance DVDs feature many of her best performances of pieces by her favorite composers. She says her dream is to inspire young aspiring musicians the way that these musicians inspired her. 

Ana Vidovic is an incredible classical guitarist who is talented beyond her years. Despite being born in a small Croatian town, Ana has been able to accomplish great successes. Her talent is undeniable and is shown through the numerous awards she has received. Coming from a family of musicians, all of which are extremely talented, Ana stands out with a style of her own.
