PepsiCo versus Coca Cola, it’s a battle among many. However, few truly go into any depth on what it is to be best. Coca Cola remains current across the globe, PepsiCo commands the Super Bowl commercials. Yet there is only one that can come out on top. Though Coca Cola is the more prevalent brand, PepsiCo is better because it is healthier and has a wider variety of products.

Coca Cola products are harmful to your health. From obesity to tooth decay to caffeine that resists sleep (Maldonado). It can even go as far as to put consumers at risk for diabetes. “They note that their findings support the suggestion that sugar-sweetened beverages, such as cola, play a role in the development of this chronic disease” (Felman). Accordingly, few sodas and snack foods are healthy, but PepsiCo is working towards a more beneficial diet.

For the past few years, PepsiCo has been moving towards healthier products. As of 2019, Pepsi has expanded their availability of sugar-free Pepsis across the Middle East and North Africa. “PepsiCo also has set a goal to reduce sodium so as to not exceed 1.3 mg of sodium per calorie in 75% of its foods portfolio volume by 2025. As of 2019, PepsiCo was at 61% of its portfolio in its top 23 markets, up from 58% in 2018” (Kelly). They have even begun to promote a more nutritious lifestyle through advertising.

As the younger generations have begun to encourage health and the use of social media, PepsiCo has taken notice and used that to their advantage. Millennials and Generation Z influence the snacking world every day, and most view carbonated drinks and salty foods as unhealthy. They prefer a healthier, yet tasty, snack instead. Pepsi has been taking notes and has set out a plan to reduce “virgin plastics use and harmful ingredients, and curbing greenhouse gases” (Schroeder). Pepsi has not only taken the time to listen to what the people want, but they’ve also put that knowledge to good use. Moreover, that cannot take away from Coke still being a very widespread brand.

Coca Cola is known worldwide, conversely, being more well-liked is not always equal to a better product. Coke has managed to stay consistent and relevant throughout the years. They have kept up the “enjoying a coke” idea; the idea of something that brings people together (Coca Cola: The Branding Strategy that Made a Difference). Unfortunately, as seen on social media, brands can often end up disappointing. Plenty of trendy brands advertised on Instagram and Tik Tok turn out to be harmful to one’s health, and the same can be said for Coca Cola. With the number of health concerns it holds, one can never be too careful.

Also, PepsiCo offers a wide variety of products to choose from. Coca Cola is a classic soda, but it eventually gets old. The PepsiCo brand includes products such as Gatorade, Tropicana, Hawaiian Punch, and even Starbucks (Beverages | PepsiCo Partners). It also has popular snack foods like Doritos, Cheetos, Frito-Lay, and Funyuns (Louis). Many people enjoy these items without even realizing that they fall under the Pepsi name. The yearly revenue provides a broader view of the status of PepsiCo goods.
