Development of Technology and Its Effect on Society Essay Example

What is technology? Firstly, the word technology was brought out from the Greek words ‘techne’ and ‘ology’. Techne means the skill and knowledge of human beings used to make up or build up various ideas or talk about their ideas while ology is a branch of learning. Therefore, technology can be defined as the addition of or the use of scientific knowledge for practical means.  How has technology impacted the lives of people? Technology has evolved and made an impact on the lives of people in many ways both positively and negatively. Discussing the positive effects of technology in the lives of people, firstly it has helped to connect with people easily, and has made day to day errands easier. Coming from our computers to phones, technology has made it simpler to communicate with people with wireless access by pressing just a few buttons. With technology, different social media apps used to communicate and interact with people from all around the world have been developed, like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and so much more. Technology has also helped in discoveries; new things are being discovered every minute hour or day with the help of modern technology and equipment.  Cost efficiency, one of the main purposes of technology includes making things cost less and be more affordable for people. Assistance in the medical field, technology makes treatment more effective, 

Ease of mobility. Technology has made a big impact in this field it helps people go to different places, both far away and close by, it is very common to see cars, bicycles, or motorcycles on the road and now some trains can go long distances in a short period and airplanes that assist people to get to a place they can’t get to by walking. Improvement in the medical field, technology has made a great impact in the health care and medical field by making workflow easier, lowering health care costs, better data storage, access to large data files across hospitals and so much more, better learning techniques, technology has been improved for teachers so they can teach through videos and games rather than just speaking and the notes and also e-learning for people that cannot come to learn physically. And lastly, improved banking, years ago, people would have to wait in long lines at the bank to process their transactions, but technology has made it easier by online banking.                                                                                 

As much as technology has impacted the society and lives of people positively, it has also impacted the lives of people negatively. Technology has also caused social isolation in people and mostly in teenagers, they spend more time in the comfort of their homes on social media and refuse to go out and socialize facing the real world. Procrastination, online entertainment is available, because it is very simple to drop all the tasks that must be completed just to focus on a movie, time with friends, and other unproductive activities. There has been a decrease in creativity because people now rely on modern equipment. Privacy and lack of security, new modern technology has helped to create more secure security and a connection to the online privacy of people. Online hackers can access data through the public domain. Loss of jobs and means of lively hood, a ton of machines and robots have been created to do the work of humans and even more, and most time companies or establishments get a hold of those machines and robots they tend to let people off from their jobs leaving them with no source of income and they would have to look for a different job.
