Did you know that nursing is one of the most trusted careers in the USA? They represent a workforce of 3 million (Smith). Not only are they very important; they have diverse opportunities! There are more than 100 specialty careers to choose from (The top pros). Nursing is all about helping others! A career I would love to pursue is nursing.

I want to be a nurse because nurses help people (The top pros). Nurses help the community too! Nursing is a very interesting job; nurses are always on their feet and thinking. I surely won’t get bored! Nurses can meet tons of new people such as patients or co-workers. Nursing is a very social job! Nurses are paid well too!

Nurses do all sorts of things. They take and record patients' medical histories and symptoms. (nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives). Nurses also perform physical exams and take part in critical decision making. Their most important job is to decide to give patients different medications, wound care, and other health interventions to see which one would work best for them (Smith).

Like any other job, you need education and training to become a nurse. Training to become a nurse can take from 1 to 4 years, determined by the amount of education planned. LPN/LVN requires 1 year, associates degree RN requires 2 years, and Bachelor’s degree RN requires 4 years. Nurses looking for a better degree will require extra education beyond their basic nursing education, which can vary from two to five years depending on the degree being obtained (Smith). Nurse anesthetists, nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners entry level is normally a master’s degree.

There are many cons to nursing though. There are a lot of physical and emotional demands to becoming a nurse. There are lots of long hours too. A normal shift would be about 8-10 hours, but nurses have to be able to work 12-15 hour shifts, which is very exhausting. Nurses are also always exposed to germs and viruses. Nurses also deal with emotional burnout, which means, a tiredness that results from constantly feeling overwhelmed. With all this it is an overall very stressful job.

These are all the reasons I think nursing would be a good job for me. I would love to be a nurse to help others! Nursing is a good career if you want to be active and never bored at a job. Nursing is a fun, physical job.
