How Music Has Changed Me Reflective Essay Example

How do you feel about music? Music has always been a part of my life. Music is a vocal or instrumental sound combined to produce harmony and expression of emotion. Ever since I was a little kid, I have always loved music. Music has the power to change your mood, affect your emotions, and even bring back memories. In my essay, I would explain how music has changed me and how music has changed over the years.

Music has been around for many years. It’s a universal human trait that goes back to 35,000 years ago. There are several different types of music. It just depends on what you like to hear. For example, you have country music, hip-hop, jazz, metal, and etc. In my opinion, I think music has changed over the years. There are many free sources for people to listen to music and discover new musicians. Now we have all different types of media platforms so discovering and meeting new artists and music is so easy. There is this new platform called Tik-Tok and every day I scroll through I find new artists and different types of music I never heard of before. 

Although music has all these great benefits some people feel different about music. In perspective one, it basically says that music is abundant. It talks about values, what we give our time and attention to. In other words, what we spend our money and attention on is most valued. I agree with this, I do think the internet has changed the music industry. In many aspects of the music business, they no longer have tapes or CDs like they use to sell or have. Now people can download any song off their device. This makes it difficult for an artist to make money. In perspective two it talks about music is not a big focus as it use to be, and that music competes for our attention. In perspective three it talks about how fewer people study music. What’s your perspective on music?

Next, let’s discuss my opinion on music.  I would have to agree with perspective one the most. Digital technology is the main thing behind free music. Many online sources provide music with internet access. People are reluctant to pay for music when they can get it for free from these different sources. Just think about how often we listen to music in our everyday lives. Music plays everywhere you go. Such as the grocery store, the mall, and etc. The widespread of music has not decreased it actually increased. People have shared many experiences with each other through different types of music, and for most of the time free music has been readily available.
