Pros and Cons of Slavery (Free Essay Sample)

During the 18th and 19th centuries slavery was prevelent in the Carabean and Noth America. Slaves were mostly used for coton, but somtimes they worked in the house, and/or on boats, while most consider slavery wrong therer are some good reasons for it. In this paper I will be debating where slavery was good or bad in the United States. 

Slaves where aften treated cruely by there owners, they where beaten and worked from sun up to after sun doun, but the economy was booming. More and more plantation owners could make a decent living. Slavery would be beneficial for the colonies because of the faster work performance, as there where more people to do the work and they had awfully long hours. If people have slaves, work would go fast and more money would come in. The slave owners where not only making money as a result of the free labor but they could also sell there slaves childen for a profit. 

Versus the not so good things that slavery caused, it led to homelessness in Africa; most of the slaves were taken by force, and those who managed to remain were left homeless after their brothers, fathers, and mothers are taken as slaves. The homes were torched to ensure that those who remained had nowhere to go. Another reason that slavery was bad is that most families were constantly separated from each other because of there owners selling them to other plantations. 

Slavery goes against the Declaration of Independence, "All men are treated equally", the funny thing is that plantation owners tried to defend them selves by saying thet the decloration of independence stated that slavery was needed. I can neither pick that slavery was good because I know that the way that most people treated them was horrible and morally incorrect, but on the other hand the economy was amazing and I can see how these slave owners thought that it fine to keep people prizener, because they where making so much money. In conclusion I can’t pick a side, they both way eachother out, and there is no real answer unless you are going strictly from heart or brain.
