Mental health is important. More important than many think. It is the sole cause of homicides and underlying health problems. People exercise and look after their bodies but most people don’t even think let alone care for their cognitive wellbeing. This needs to stop. Now.
Mental Health includes ones psychological, emotional and social well-being which in simple terms means how we think, feel and act. It also helps in determining how one handles stress, makes choices and relates to others. Mental health can affect one’s daily life in many shapes and forms.
Have you ever felt sick? Well I bet you perceived something tangible. Like maybe nausea, vomiting or an injury. Im sure we can all relate to this however the intellectual side of us may be on the brink of collapse however you wouldn’t even set eye to it. This is because mental health is seen as more subtle and less out in the blue.
Some symptoms of mental health conditions could be Feeling sad or down, being Confused, Anxiety and fear as well as many others too. This is important as Mental health issues do not get better on their own. The longer an illness persists, the more difficult it can be to treat and recover .An example could be Untreated anxiety. This may escalate to panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder and worse case scenario even suicidal thoughts. As you can see if left untreated, a persons mental health can deteriorate rapidly.
Did you know The suicide rate for teenagers ages 12 to 19 increased by 42 percent over only a short span of a few years back in 2015. But why was this? As teenagers and pre-teens we almost put our emotions on hold because we are fearful of being judged and invalidated. We also dont receive help meaning we often suffer in silence. In addition, we as teenagers often don’t know the signs of serious mental health problems. there can be Various factors in people’s lives that can disrupt these mental health conditions. The main one being childhood trauma
Taking care of this not only is getting help from professionals when needed but also connecting with other, getting involved in physical activities, and most important of all staying positive . Being positive allows people to do many wonderful things like coping with stress and working productively.
Many adults say they don’t have time for their physiological wellbeing, however they will spend time on human desires, so why not just take 10 minutes out of your day, to look after our mental well being. E.g meditiation or just reflecting on your day
In conclusion, mental health still remains a controversial topic within our society. As much as there is evidence on this matter, many people still insist it is all within the mind. However with all that being said Taking care and looking after one’s mental health really does preserve an individual’s ability to enjoy life.
