Role of Educational TV in Child Development Essay Example

Did you know that 90% of American children watch tv but only 30% of American children watch educational tv? Kids are watching junk on TV, some is educational, some is not. But education means learning. If something helps a kid learn and is entertaining why would you skip the chance? Everyone knows that  I believe that educational tv is a great way to explore learning for children.

One reason is, educational tv helps kids interact with their parents in a different way. For instance, When kids get older they act like characters in the show/movie but if you are there to see what they are watching you can guide them whether to act like the character or not. In fact, You learn more when you are answering questions about a topic that your parents ask because you are going over the topic. To illustrate, educational tv shows real life scenarios while learning with your parents

Furthermore,There are ways to find what educational tv shows are right for your kid. For example, Some ways to find what shows are good is that you can check reviews of shows to see if they are in the age range of your child. As evidence, You can try more than one show to make sure you find the one you like. In fact, Shows are on at different times so you can make a defined schedule that matches the show you want to see. You can find the right show for you if you look for it.

Most importantly, Educational Tv shows have too much criticism and a lot of studies are kept in the dark about the good side of tv. In particular, Mainstream media mostly reports the bad behaviors of educational tv shows. As evidence, Some shows have good qualities but they are still thrown into the category of tv shows that have a couple or no good qualities.  Specifically, Zimmerman's 2005 study found that television is beneficial to children aged three to five. A finding that was often ignored in newspaper articles about the study.  Educational Tv shows have too much criticism and not enough studies are publicly shown.

I realize some may believe, that educational tv is bad and also say that it causes kids to go on a rampage and some kids use it as a constant source of comfort, others say that tv leads to ADHD.

On the other hand, the cons don’t make sense because if you are there picking what your kid watches they won’t go on a rampage because it is educational. Also the only way that a kid would use tv as a constant source of comfort is if when they were young they watched too much tv. When people say that TV leads to ADHD they have no clue what they are talking about. ADHD can occur if you watch a lot of tv, but if you watch about 30 minutes you most likely will not get adhd. I have ADHD but that is just the way my mind works, it has nothing to do with tv or any electronics, electronics are not good when you have ADHD but that's it.
