The spanish flu and coronavirus were two devastating pandemics claiming millions of lives. most of us had the honor of living through one (covid - 19) and there are some people who lived through both. they should tell you that there are similarities in people's reactions, how they spread and how they were contained and treated ass well as differences in how they began, the amount of waves they had and who they targeted and killed.

The spanish flu and covid -- 19 had various things in common. they both are spread through water droplets in the air created when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. they both were contained by means of isolation and lockdowns and both went through trial and error trying to create treatment. people's reactions at the beginning were also similar: some people obey the rules and measures required to slow the spread of the virus while others do the opposite. anti - mask complaints were also issued during both pandemics. (during the flu people were afraid they couldn't tell robbers from regular people and durig covid complaints inclued trouble breathing, mask were annoying among other things). after some time people were just desperate to return to their normal lives.

The spanish flu and coronavirus however also had contrasting elements. covid - 19 was dicovered when WHO was informed of cases of pnemonia with unknown causes in wuhan china where as the spanish flu started in a bird host as a A form influenza virus that was at some point transmited to mamals. a good point to note is the ammount of waves, results vary but the most reoccuring statistic is 4 waves for the spanish flu and three waves for the coronavirus. an interesting contrast is that covid goes after the elderly, really young ones and people with weak immune systems on the contrary the spanish flu like to attack healthy young adults.

The spanish flu and the coronavirus though almost100 years apart have some interesting similarities and differences. from the viruses themselves to the to the people affected, seeing how they compare and contrast can give insight to how we grew in the medical field. it isn't set in stone that there won't be another pandemic but with new technology and medical methods being developed we can hope for a better experience and lower death rate.
