I believe that honesty is always the best policy and that lying to someone, even for good intentions, is still wrong. Firstly, telling the truth makes people trust you and build trustworthiness with other people. Secondly, telling the truth can get you out of or in less trouble. Finally, telling the truth shows others you're a good person.

To start with, honesty is the best policy because telling the truth can make others trust you, and build trustworthiness with people. For example, If you forgot to do your homework yesterday and the teacher is asking for all student's homework you could, either make up a lie or tell the truth. If you tell a lie that you forgot it at home the teacher may not believe you, and if the teacher knows that you are lying the teacher will think you're not trustworthy. However, if you tell the truth that you forgot to do your homework the teacher may be disappointed in you, but you were mature enough, to tell the truth. This will make the teacher trust you more which builds trustworthiness. Therefore, honesty is always the best policy because when you tell the truth it makes others trust you.

The second reason why honesty is the best policy is that telling the truth can get you out of or in less trouble. From past experiences, telling a lie about something only got me into more trouble. One time when I was younger I accidentally broke a glass vase at home. I didn't want to get in trouble, so I pretended I was in my room the whole time reading. When my parents asked me " Do you know how the vase broke?". I said "No". My parents knew I was lying because I was the only one other than my parents, in the house. My parents were upset at me for lying and grounded me in my room for a week. They also told me if I had told the truth I would have just had to help clean up the glass and be more careful. Therefore, honesty is the best policy because telling the truth can get out of or in less trouble.

My final reason why honesty is the best policy is that telling the truth shows others you're a good person. For example, If you're known for being constantly honest with somebody they will know that you have trustworthiness, which is a good characteristic for a person to have. It also means that more people can depend on you more, because they know if you say you can do something for them they'll believe you. This will lead to a lot of people respecting you which is a sign of a great person to be around. Therefore, honesty is the best policy because telling the truth shows you are a good person.

Some may argue that always telling the truth can hurt people's feelings or lose a friend because the truth sometimes hurts and that telling a lie is a way to prevent that. Despite the fact that the truth can hurt someone's feelings, people expect you to tell them the truth, and will respect you for it but depending on the way you tell the truth can result in either a positive or negative reaction.

To conclude, I believe that honesty is always the best policy and that lying to someone, even for good intentions, is still wrong. Firstly, telling the truth makes people trust you and build trustworthiness with other people. Secondly, telling the truth can get you out of or in less trouble. Finally, telling the truth shows others you're a good person.
