Admission Essay Sample: James Madison University

For my future carrier I am going to have a job that has to do with environmental policies and solutions, like environmental attorney or working for the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Using James Madison University’s carrier center, I choose to investigate the CIA.gov link where I found an Environmental Attorney job.  The description read, “As an Environmental Attorney, you will work on unique and challenging issues related to national security and interact with a wide variety of U.S. Government and state agencies, Congress, federal and state authorities, and the private sector.” For me to apply for this job I would need a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school, an active bar membership, three years of environmental law practice prior and full understanding of acts and policies related to the environment. The application began with my background, education, expertise, world history, and so on. It defined how you need to be able to demonstrates executive presence and professional confidence, effectively negotiates, exhibits humility, creates clear and concise written documents, and so much more. 

After looking at the glorious CIA application, I decided to move onto things maybe a little more realistic or that could help me get there. Using handshake I found two openings that really stood out to me, a green corps organizer and a research associate for an Environmental law institute. At Green Corps I would be learning how to start my own organization and “how to run campaigns that inspire the public and build organizations and political support needed to save our planet.” (Green Corps. 2021) Even though the Green Corps. position is only for a year it could teach me so many things about starting my own non-profit organization and how to gain public support. The research associate is a two-year job for the environmental law institute in Washington D.C. At this job I would working with “15–20 lawyers and scientists in the Research and Policy Division on projects addressing environmental and natural resource protection, climate, public health, environmental justice, and pollution prevention.” (Environmental law institute. 2021) This job could allow me to gain hands on experience on the ground and in the office. 

After exploring all the job opportunities given by UCC and handshake I understand where I must grow academically and personally on my path to a successful carrier. When applying for the CIA job it opened my eyes to when in a government or political job you must not let your emotions take control of your actions and always act justice even when others deny to. I also must gather as many critical thinking strategies as possible to be able to resolve complex problems. These next couple years to prepare me for my future I will absorb as much information given to me now and take advantage of all JMU has to offer like study abroad and internships.
