The popular quote “money makes the world go round” is subsequently true in terms of going to college for your dream career. Many people don’t receive opportunities to go to college and pursue their dreams due to financial situations. Scholarships are a major help when the dream is to become a veterinarian. A high price college degree means a cash-making job.

Since the Second grade, I wanted to become a veterinarian, no matter how much it cost to become one. I was willing to push myself to make average to above-average grades and take advantage of the advanced classes that our school provided. In middle school, I started to take higher-level science classes to help my understanding in that field. Biology class my freshman year is where my love for science started to grow and blossom. Veterinarians will major in biology, the study of living organisms divided into many specialized fields, studying living organisms is something that piques my interest. I can remember a considerable amount during that class. For example, my teacher was Mrs. McGovern and one way she helped the class to remember the different parts of a cell was the cell city song. I liked biology so much that I even took it for a second time my sophomore year for college credit. We conducted many experiments and we were given the opportunity to go to White Oak Conservation Center. On this trip, we examined skulls, took part in the blood studies on rhinos, learned the reproduction methods, and we even took a tour of their veterinary clinic. This trip definitely helped my passion grow for this field. Biology itself is an astounding job field to be a part of.

On average most veterinarians spend about eight years in college. Eight years of college majoring in health sciences and biology will cost around $200,000, which to an average person is a tremendous amount of money. Most people wanting to pursue this career will put the cost aside and follow their dreams. Coming from a family who thinks college is a lucky chance to be a part of, personally would never take such an opportunity for granted. Our family is large and blended and rose from being extremely financially disadvantaged to the middle class and above. We previously were on food stamps even though my mother worked two jobs while going to college to become a nurse for the health benefits of her amino-composed child. To this day she is still repaying her student loans leaving me to work for my own college. My father has been out of the picture since the age of three. He never paid child support, therefore my financial needs were dependent on my mother. I personally want better for myself financially after struggling with my mother for so long, so applying for scholarships and saving money from any jobs I can obtain with babysitting is what I personally can provide for my college funds. Similar to my mother I can pursue through the endurance of college and achieve my dream career no matter what comes my way.

Overall college is an objective that I will endure through even if it requires me to take out student loans, moreover, my happiness is my choice of career is the most important ambition that I could have. My mother and school have impacted my choices and my determination in my life. Giving me the love for biology and the power to push through to my hopes and dreams.
