Personal Growth is a mentally challenging experience most people will go through in their lives. My way of explaining personal growth is the actions that improve a person's capabilities and potential, build productive capacity, easily locate menial tasks, and improve quality of life and the realization of desires and goals. Going through this moment of my life at sixteen is something proud I always reflect upon myself. While growing up my parents provided and supported everything I wanted, a safe place to sleep, from my first toys to my first car. My parents always found a way to support my needs. As I got older I realized my needs became more prodigal than my parents could keep up.

One aspect of getting towards the end of high school was that most of my friends were working for the first time since you had to be fifteen or sixteen to start working. Making my own money was something I wanted to achieve but thinking of how to do it profused me. I didn’t know where to start or what to look for. Living by water can offer different jobs like boat docks or lakeside restaurants. A couple of minutes away from my home was a new restaurant opening by the water. The restaurant was called Zefs Dockside and they made their first post on Facebook saying “We’re hiring”. After seeing this I knew this was the perfect opportunity to put myself out there being the first staff of a new restaurant. I told my mom about Zefs and she thought it was an excellent place to apply to. I shortly sent Zefs my application online and within the next day I got a call from their manager informing me, “Come in tomorrow at 4 for an interview!” I couldn’t even believe how fast they got back to me but I didn’t have much time to prepare myself.

Throughout the night I research questions they might ask for hostesses. After learning the factors of being a hostess I knew I could be the perfect fit for the position. The morning of the interview I was feeling agitated since this would be something I’ve never encountered before. I tried to stay as calm as possible and not work myself up. The drive to Zefs was five minutes away and the song I chose to play was ‘Lose Yourself’ by Eminem. “His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy,” these lyrics were the exact way I felt walking into the restaurant. There were multiple people already there and stocking everything. The manager Sarina introduced herself to me and sat me down for the interview. She asked me two simple questions. When do you get out of school? When are you available?

That was it, two quick and easy questions. I got myself so prepared for nothing. This made me feel at ease. She quickly exclaimed I got the job and I have never felt more relieved. Fast forward ten months and I’ve never been more proud of how much I matured and learned being in the work field. Being so young and surrounding myself with adults in a face-paced environment made me realize how much I’ve grown. This part in my life that seemed so intimidating became the most desirable part of me. The event of personal growth impacted me to believe in anything you want to achieve. I grew more confident that I was missing prior years. If I could give any advice to anyone at all it would be to take that life-changing experience.
