Persuasive Essay Sample On Shorter School Days
At Virginia High, the administration has been discussing the possibility of reducing the school day by an hour. The students are excited to have a shorter school day. Longer school days result in more stress. Students should have a shorter school day because they spend too much time in class, students need more free time to do their work, and students need more time to spend with friends and socialize.
First, students should have a shorter school day because they spend too much time sitting in class. When students are in school, a large majority of students spend their time sitting and doing their work in class in silence. As any student would say, school is very boring, and they would much rather have more time outside of school to be active and socializing. For example, I'm at school for around seven hours a day, five days a week. Of these seven hours a day, I spend four to five hours sitting and doing work, which is already unhealthy, and another half of that is in silence. Because they spend too much time sitting in class, students should have a shorter school day.
Second, students should have a shorter school day because students need more free time to do their work. When in school, students are already overwhelmed with the amount of work they must do in class, which doesn’t even include homework. Anyone I know as a fellow student would agree with the statement school is too long, and they need more free time to do their work. When I come to school sometimes my whole class can be working their hardest to get their work done. Even after an hour or so long class, we might not have done it. Having this issue happen in many classes results in a lot of work being stacked up, and some people have jobs which means they don’t have the free time to do it outside of school. If they had a shorter day, they would have more time to do their work. Because students need more free time to do their work, students should have a shorter school day.
Third, students should have a shorter school day because students need more time to spend with friends and socialize. When in school, students rarely get time to socialize outside of lunch, and when they do, a lot of the time, they get in trouble for talking in class. Every student almost unanimously agrees that they don’t have enough time to have fun with friends or socialize outside of school. When I am in school, I usually get about thirty minutes of true free time to socialize; then when I get home, I must go to two to three different practices for soccer. This event results in me having next to nothing when it comes to free time, unless of course I want to be out until two in the morning, which would ruin my scholastic career. Because students need more time to spend with friends and socialize, students should have a shorter school day.
In conclusion, if the school day was shorter, students would get more work done, relax, and be more sociable rather than sitting inside and not getting their work done. The school day is too long resulting in students spending too much time sitting in class all day. Students would get more work done if they had more free time to do it. Shorter school days would leave more time for students to socialize with their peers and enjoy themselves. If the school day was shorter, than students would be healthier, get more work done, be happier, and more social.
