Reflection Essay about The Role of Technology in The Personal Development

In the realm of advanced technology that we are bombarded by. Technology has prominently impacted our lives in so many ways especially through technological resources and social media platforms. So,  a question that comes to my mind is, does technology succor in the personal development of an individual?

About technology, I have learned that technology is the application of scientific knowledge that involves tangible and intangible resources to help solve problems or to get things done. Most importantly, the use of Technology also affects the way an individual communicates, learns, or thinks. One aspect of Technology that has had a great impact on society is how it affects our learning and how one can gain personal growth or development. It is observed that Technology has made learning more interactive and collaborative, it even helps individuals to better engage with material that they are learning and have trouble with. Also, Technology gets you better access to both tangible and intangible resources whether it is through emails, smartphones, computers as the list goes on. 

Moreover, with the use of Technology, I have realized that educators are now leveraging the potential of technological resources as well as social media technologies to help enhance the overall teaching and learning process. Unequivocally, the emerging role of social media in the teaching-learning process cannot be ignored. I believe social media technologies such as educational tools, and other social apps do not only provide individuals access to useful information but also connect them with learning groups online and other educational systems that make their overall learning process more absorbing and engaging. Further, even though Technology has its advantages, learners and practitioners can also face challenges developing reflectivity in learning. Some of this includes Cognitive, Social, Motivational, or even Effective challenges in the reflective learning process. A few of the main attributions in regard to the challenges are, individuals seem to forget one unit of the material shortly after moving on to a new one or, one can also lack in skill prerequisite or background knowledge as to how to go ahead using the full potential of the technological resources around them. Above all else, this unit has thought me the difference between tangible and intangible resources and how indispensable these technological resources are especially by applying reflective practices. Ergo, it helps by solving problems, providing a great wealth of information, achieving goals, and also completing tasks. For example, tangible resources are devices or tools like computers, scanners, and machinery. Whilst intangible resources involve resources like e-portfolios, Journals, online websites, Microsoft, Facebook, and similar ilk. 

Furthermore, the impact I reckoned that technology has on me from a teacher‘s perspective is that it motivates learners to higher levels of achievement. For example, when Technology is a routine part of a learner’s school experience, students' attendance would improve. Another prominent impact would be mastering fundamental skills. Without a doubt, technology I.e technological resources helped with fundamental skills of reading and writing. Learners with routine access to Technology tend to learn more basic skills faster and better when they have a chance to practice them using Technology. You’ll see learners and practitioners spending more time learning and practicing basic tasks au contraire to others who approach the same tasks in a traditional “paper and pencil” manner. With that being said, I am 95% certain that learners would become more intrigued or motivated to learn when their use of Technology is part of their daily experience. Indubitably, I can vouch to say that the impact of Technology has also made me cognizant of the fact that the role of Technology is indeed influential and necessary as it succors in the personal growth and development of an individual including myself.

However, moving forward with this new Knowledge or skill as a teacher, I can now leverage the use of technology to achieve new levels of productivity by effectuating useful digital tools to expand learning opportunities for students and to bring educational content to life. With the effective use of digital tools in a classroom students' engagement will increase, this also will help me to improve their lesson plans, and facilitate personalized learning. Virtual classrooms, educational videos, augmented reality and other technology programs cannot only make a class more convivial, but they can also create a more inclusive learning environment which in fact will help foster collaborative and inquisitiveness and enable me to collect adequate data on a student’s performance.

In conclusion, there is no doubt in the fact that Technology has made our lives better and concurrently efficient as well, both through technological resources and social media platforms. Thanks to the use of Technology I can now gain wider access to useful information using digital tools such as slide presentations, portable whiteboards, educational websites, etc. which will indeed help me to motivate learners to higher levels of achievements. And above all, by utilizing all of these requisites, the personal growth and development of learners and practitioners through the use of Technology will bring an éclat of great success.
