Many dogs and cats are euthanized every year due to overcrowding in animal shelters and health issues that come from not being spayed. I believe all dogs and cats should be fixed because it is good for their health and also helps keep the animal shelters at a safe population.

Many dogs and cats will develop health problems such as cancer or unhealthy pregnancies if they are not spayed or neutered. Dogs who have not been fixed have a much higher chance of developing testicular or breast cancer than dogs who have been fixed. Pregnant dogs need to be monitored closely by a veterinarian to watch for signs of stress and make sure their vitamin and mineral levels are at a safe range. Many people whose dogs get pregnant are not financially able or willing to have their dog seen by a vet. This can lead to your dog having complications and losing the puppies or even their own life.

Overpopulation is at an all time high in animal shelters right now. They are having to turn away stray animals because they are not able to care for them all due to the safety of themselves and the other animals. Those stray animals then get put back on the streets where they are able to keep reproducing. Cats are able to reproduce at an exceptionally fast rate. Many cats are not spayed, so that leads to higher amounts of stray cats. Many cities have low cost vets who will spay animals for a cheaper price. A lot of vets also offer different programs to get stray cats fixed for free to help fight this overpopulation epidemic. 

I believe getting your animal fixed is the right thing to do as a responsible pet owner. It is a quick and safe procedure that will keep your furry best friend happy and healthy in the long run.
