The jungle is often described as a place full of wonder and mystery, just like UCLA. Although it might seem unlikely for there to be a connection between a wild atmosphere like the jungle with a serious institution such as UCLA, similarities will often become apparent once you know where to look. Some of these similarities lay in the comparison of key aspects of each location such as their diversity within them, the difficulty that is presented when deciding to enter either location as well as the usage of the path already set by past explorers, however leaving enough potential for the forging of a new path. UCLA might seem like just a university but the perception and expectations that I have for it run deeper than just another school, it is like trying to find a way to survive like in the jungle.

Even if I had studied my whole life about what the jungle is like and how I could survive within it this does not mean that I am ready to face the challenge that is entering the jungle in the first place, due to the high concentration of trees and vines there is no guaranteed that I would even be able to get in. It is the same case for UCLA, when I decided to apply to this university my initial expectation was low, although I had spent a great part of my academic career studying and taking the courses necessary to enter a good college, this did not mean in any way that I was going to be guaranteed entry to UCLA in the first place, so it was a huge surprise to see that all that hard work paid off and I was finally able to enter the jungle.  Once inside the majestic jungle I discover two main keys to it, first it was way more diverse than I imagined, there were many cultural backgrounds in this “jungle” so many that I even found those who were similar to me, making me feel more like home. The second main point I discovered is that although hard to enter those explorers who were able to enter left their own set of trails and paths to navigate this treacherous jungle, just like my NSA, alumni, and recent graduates have left before them in UCLA, and although they highly encourage me to use them as it is what worked for them, one of the great details of this beautiful jungle is that I can use there path as more of a base and forge my own. This will allow me to create my path within my newly encounter community here at UCLA, I will be able to find the right path that I believe is the best for me, I can do this by taking the classes I believe fit me the best, joining the club that will give me the experience I need and joining the communities that I believe will help me the most in getting more accustomed to the jungle and help me easily navigate it without any big disturbances.

Despite the jungle benign a wild place, benign freshman the expectations and perception I have for UCLA are often similar to those of trying to survive in the jungle. From the initial expectation of attempting of entering it, to discovering that UCLA is very diverse. In addition, the way each place is explored through the usage of old paths forged from before us, however leaving the opportunity for us to create our own, this is why UCLA is much more than just a University it is a jungle.
