As Malcolm X said, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” This quote, among others, repeats the same saying over and over we have all heard from our younger days. This is that education can change your life. Many of us cannot see it now, but having an excellent educational background can provide a sense of security, comfort, and connection.

A good education can provide a sense of security. Due to the competitiveness and increase in demand for employment, it is difficult to have a decent-paying job with a primary or high school degree. Most jobs might require a higher degree level. This is because having a higher degree of education proves that the person applying is knowledgeable about the subject at hand and fit for the job. Banks won’t hire someone who only knows basic math to balance their checkbook, neither will hospitals hire people with no medical study to be doctors. This is why higher education can get you more job opportunities. With job security, financial security is also gained. Most high-paying jobs need a lot of years of study.  An example is a surgeon. They require years of study and practice before working in a hospital, but their pay rate is higher than a retail cashier with a high school degree. Finally, they can have the security that their light, water, internet, grocery, and shelter will be there. They will be able to pay their due and debt without worrying about the threat to the basic necessities in life.  A sense of security can be gained through higher education. 

A comfortable life can be acquired with a good education. This is due to the peace of mind you receive after having a sense of security. This in turn can decrease some problems as well as anxiety and worrying. Knowing that they can further the education of your children and give them what they need in terms of material items can also give some people peace of mind. Also it gives the person a sense of luxury. The items that were crave and the places that were dreamt off during the years of study can be accessed now due to the opportunity that education has offered. Most well educated people live in luxury due to the salary they receive hence reaping what they sow.  Finally, retirement is not a worry for the educated. This is due to the careers that their education had led them into, paying them a good sum of money that they can put up into retirement funds. Also during retirement they can enjoy doing whatever they are content with due to the hardwood that was paid off.  A good education brings a comfortable life.

Finally, education can help people build connections. One way of this is due to language. Universities give people the opportunity to learn a language during their study. This helps people to build connections with others in their native language. For example, a businessman can neogotiness and seal a deal with a foreign investor  more clearly and efficiently compared to using an interpreter.  Another way is due to friendships and acquaintances made in the university. Because of the general courses, students of various educational plans and career choices can mingle with one another. Even though not everyone will become their ally, they can still turn to some of these colleagues in cause of need. A businessman who had become acquainted with a lawyer during his university years can promote the lawyer services while the lawyer can be his sources of legal advice. Education can as well let people build connections with their community. Some educated people did not grow up in the wealthy nor middle class and know how it feels to break the cycle. These people give back by helping out their community and as well as providing opportunity for those to continue their education without worrying about how they can access it. This in turn gives them a name in the community and makes them well rounded citizens. Connection can be built through education. 

In conclusion, a good education can provide one with security, comfort and connection. They will not have to worry about their career, finance, needs and want. They will also live a life of comfort and build beneficial relationships with others. As Sydney J. Harris stated, "The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows." The purpose of education is to open opportunity and to better one life.
