Have you ever been listening to music and just felt the importance of what it was you were listening to. What makes music so important in our world? Because it displays the importance of what it is about, that is the significance of the songs in John Steinbeck's novel the Pearl. The songs display the importance/significance of what they are about, as well as letting the reader know how the thing the song is about will be important later in the book and being able to accurately predict what will happen later in the novel.

My first point is that the songs display how important the thing the song is about is. The songs tend to show themselves only in situations where the situation can be interpreted as important or serious. On page 17 when The Song Of The Pearl That Might Be played when Kino was about to open up the shell to find the Pearl. John showed that the Pearl will play an importance later in the book by playing the song in Kino’s head. The songs display importance in the novel, but they also play important roles later in the novel.

My second point to be made is that the songs display importance for the thing it is about later in the novel. When the songs play, they show how important the thing will be later in the novel. When The Song Of The Pearl That Might Be played on page 17, as well as displaying the importance of the pearl, it also shows that the Pearl will be important later in the book, you can know that for certain because every single song that plays for a thing holds importance later in the novel. So the songs can be used to display significance later in the novel and also display the significance of the thing in a general sense. But they also are a way to predict what will happen.

My final point that needs to be made is that the songs in the novel are also a way to predict what will happen later in the novel. When the Song Of The Pearl That Might Be played in chapter 2, you could use that as a way to predict what will happen in later chapters. One person could say that the Pearl will help instead of hurt Kino and Juana if they had not read any farther in the book, as well as the other way around, but that is open to interpretation. So the songs can be used as a way to predict what will happen.

In conclusion, The songs In John Steinbeck’s novelette the Pearl, the significance of them is that they display the importance of them in the novel in a general sense, a significance later in the novel and they can be used as a way to predict what will happen later in the novel. I have shown why these things are true.
