Argumentative Essay: Should Schools Keep Summer Break?

Summer vacation in schools is a topic that has widely been debated. There have been studies showing why summer vacation should be implied, there are also studies proving why summer vacation should be eliminated from the school system. I think summer vacation should not be removed from the school system.

According to the text, the reasons why schools would want to cancel summer vacation are largely financial. Parents work and must find childcare while their kids aren't at school. The prices get high and according to the text the price is estimated to be about $958 per child for summer activities. many parents aren't able to afford that price and it can really take a blow on parent's financial state

Another reason to cancel summer vacation can be the so-called "summer slide", the tendency for children to forget valuable academic skills during breaks. When schools reteach these forgotten skills it can waste time that could've been spent learning new material and preparing students for upcoming exams.

Canceling summer doesn't mean that students would never get time off from their activities, there are ways for schools to adapt a year-round schedule that provides frequent breaks to students. This helps everyone as it is easier for families to travel at different points in the year. This also helps students by enabling them to never lose what they learned the previous year.

Summer vacation is a topic that will be argued for a long time but it truly needs to go. Some may say that the school system is better with it, but it is not, there are many ways how the effects of summer vacation can be avoided by schools.
