Essay Sample: Homework Help Students in a Future

I pick up my bag from the car and trudge to my room. I plop in my headphones and wander into the world of homework. Homework is an important part of success in school. This is why homework should be continued in school. For 9 years I have experienced the benefits of homework. Homework improves student achievement and  reinforces learning while developing good studying habits.

The fact is, Feeling a sense of accomplishment is an important element in students' learning. Students don't have any motivation when it comes to school but when you put grades into the factor it gives a student a drive and sense of success. Another aspect of homework is that it allows the student to become smarter and enhance intelligence. Homework Top three pros and cons article states, “Studies show that homework improves student achievement in terms of improved grades, test results, and the likelihood to attend college.On both standardized tests and grades, students in classes that were assigned homework outperformed 69% of students who didn’t have homework.  A majority of studies on homework’s impact – 64% in one meta-study and 72% in another – showed that take-home assignments were effective at improving academic achievement.” As you can see not only does it boost test scores and grades but acceptance in college. In 2nd grade my teacher wasn’t assigning homework and when I went home I would just mess around. That did not benefit me, nor my learning. It felt like I wasn’t doing as well as I thought I could and there was evidence for that the next year I had to take after school class that would help me. But when the teacher started to apply homework, I would come home after class and fully retain that information. My grades would skyrocket from Bs and Cs to As. 

Another way homework helps at school is by reinforcing the information in class. I do see that homework helps students retain information. In math, I always feel like I don’t understand the concept until I get to do the assignment. Also in math we had our final. Everyone felt nervous because they never had to study for a test that was this intense, but when I started to study I processed that it was like homework where you would sit down and just understand each chapter. Also, schoolwork teaches you how to manage your time and it helps you understand consequences. For example you have to find time out of your day to do your homework instead of having fun all day.  In a recent study, Homework Top three pros and cons article declares, “Students typically retain only 50% of the information teachers provide in class, and they need to apply that information in order to truly learn it. Homework helps students to develop key skills that they’ll use throughout their lives, such as accountability, autonomy, discipline, time management, self-direction, critical thinking, and independent problem-solving.” 

However, many have stated that homework does not help younger students. But when I was in third grade my father told my teacher to assign me extra homework. I thought I would be overwhelmed by all the homework but I wasn’t. Anyway, I was going from extra class throughout 1-3 to Honor and A’s so if it wasn’t extra homework then  I guess god really wants me to get far.

I know everyone says homework is a waste of time and there are no benefits, it's just something that the teacher gives to annoy you. But I dare you to put that phone away and open that math book. I dare you to get off that couch and start finishing homework. I dare you to give homework a try and see how far you go in school because at the end of the day there are only two things that last forever: your health and your education.
