The traditional American workweek; you either love it or you hate it. Most people are the latter. They detest the standard 8 hours for five days. The hatred of the usual schedule creates many issues when it comes to how people work and study. It makes people less motivated; therefore, less work gets done. Because of this, schools and businesses have been looking for ways to abolish this issue for good. Their solution: four-day workweeks. That's right! Some places are granting their employees and students a day off from their usual work/school schedule. The only exception to this: everybody must stay an extra two hours for the days they do show up to their place of work or study.  So does this new program benefit the people it's trying so hard to help? Yes, it does. Despite working similar hours each week, a day off would provide a day to rest, catch up on missed work, and plan for the upcoming week.

It comes as no surprise that work and school are astonishingly draining. Sometimes the number of assignments given is too much and causes people to grow tired and less willing to work. It is human nature to give up when exhausted. For this reason, they require a day to recharge. In consequence, they will be able to put in sufficient effort when it is needed. You may be thinking, "Well, what about the weekend? Isn't that a time to rest?" And although you're not wrong, most people have things to do over the weekend. Such as tasks they didn't have the opportunity to complete because of work or school.  Therefore, a day to rest would give a proper quantity of time to recuperate and revive before the coming week. 

Any employed person would know that work and school often distribute copious amounts of assignments. Sometimes, there are too many to keep up within the few days available to complete them. In many instances, people need time to catch up on any work they may have missed. A day off from their jobs or education would be the perfect chance to accomplish any missing or unfinished assignments. Instituting this would destress workers and scholars, giving them a much clearer head to work meticulously in the future. And with sedulous employees comes a much more orderly workplace or classroom. Unquestionably, this would serve everyone, from bosses to administrators to interns and protegés. 

Managing a business or leading a class takes a lot of work, more specifically, planning. If a person is in charge of something, they must always possess a plan. Generally, it's toilsome to arrange plans while trying to regulate a group of people. It would be valuable if leaders had a day where they don't have to manage anyone. They have an opportunity to spend their time preparing lessons and assignments for the days that they must give all of their attention to those they are in charge of managing. Enforcing a day off of work would instantly take an abundance of stress off teachers, bosses, administrators, etc. 

Everyone has experienced the stress of being overworked. Everyone could benefit from one day a week where they get to unwind and decompress after a long week of work or school. A free day would serve a great purpose by providing a day to rest, catch up on missed work, and plan for the upcoming week. All working people know how great it feels to have a catch-up day. So why not take it out of the regular work week? So from now on, when thinking about what you could do for your students or employees, think about giving them one good day to rest, work at their own pace, and plan.
